General Rules 

A basic overview of the rules for water polo can be found on the following link. Basic Water Polo Rules

Unless specified within the league or tournament all competition shall play in accordance with the FINA WP Rule Book. For more details about the updated rules, here is the FINA 2019-2021 Rule Book. 

For teams playing in the NCL please see the handbook and guides for futher rule clarification in this league. This includes 14U teams who will be playing at the 14U Western National Championship. NCL Handbook and Guides

 

Modified Rules

Alberta Water Polo is continually working to align with the Long Term Athlete Development model laid out by Water Polo Canada. Within this model, recommendations are made for implementing age appropriate rule modifications . Yearly, AWPA reviews all rule modifications and works alongside its clubs to determine any rule modifications within our provinicial leagues.
